BODY SMART KIDS for Juniors and Teens
After School Activity
Service Description
π BODY SMART Move. Notice. Play. Grow. An after-school movement program for building body awareness, confidence and healthy movement habits. Body Smart is an all-round movement experience designed to help young people become more aware of how they sit, stand, move and carry themselves β while having fun along the way. Each week introduces a different movement experience, including chair fitness, aerial, pole fitness, mobility, posture and functional movement. The heart of the program is Chair Fitness & Posture Education. Students learn that something as simple as sitting can affect how the body feels and functions over time. Through playful exercises and practical education, they'll explore how to sit with greater awareness, change positions, move regularly and recognize when their body is becoming tired, tense or uncomfortable. This isn't about telling young people to βsit up straight.β It's about teaching them to notice their bodies and make better choices. WHAT STUDENTS WILL EXPLORE πͺ Chair fitness & healthy sitting habits π§ Posture & body alignment π€Έ Mobility, flexibility & functional movement πͺ Aerial movement πͺ Beginner pole fitness π§ Body awareness & mindfulness β€οΈ Confidence & self-expression π― Balance, coordination & strength πΏ Learning how movement can support everyday life WHY IT MATTERS Young people spend increasing amounts of time sitting β studying, gaming, using computers and eventually working at desks. Body Smart gives them an opportunity to develop movement awareness before poor habits become deeply ingrained. They learn practical skills they can take with them into high school, college, future careers and everyday life: How am I sitting? How am I standing? Where am I holding tension? When do I need to move? What is my body telling me? MOST IMPORTANTLY... This isn't a class about being the strongest, most flexible or best student in the room. It's about confidence, curiosity and learning to trust your own body. Students don't just learn how to move. They learn how to notice. For aerial classes, leggings and a fitted top that covers the underarms and backs of the knees are recommended. Avoid lotions or oils before Pole or Aerial classes, as they can affect grip and safety. To protect our aerial fabrics, all jewelry, watches, zippers, buckles, or other sharp items must be removed before using the fabric. Please arrive with fingernails and toenails smooth and free from sharp, broken, or rough edges that could snag or puncture the fabric. Protective tape will be available when needed. Our fabrics are specialized studio equipment and costly to replace. Students are responsible for following these care requirements and may be held responsible for damage caused by failure to do so. Thank you for helping us care for the equipment that makes these experiences possible.
